Australian Customs and Border Protection Service

Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBPS) manages the security and integrity of Australia’s borders.

ACPBS employ more than 5000 people in Australia and overseas and our central office is in Canberra. ACPBS have a fleet of ocean-going patrol vessels and contract two aerial surveillance providers for civil maritime surveillance and response.

Protecting the Australian community through the interception of illegal drugs and firearms is a high priority and sophisticated techniques are used to target high-risk aircraft, vessels, cargo, postal items and travelers. This includes intelligence analysis, computer-based analysis, detector dogs and various other technologies.

ACPBS clients include the Australian community, the Government, industry, travelers and other government agencies.

Protecting Australia’s borders requires the use of sophisticated technologies in order to be able to respond quickly to prevent potential threats and incidents occurring.

The Business Need

Protecting Australia’s borders requires the use of sophisticated technologies in order to be able to respond quickly to prevent potential threats and incidents occurring.

Maintaining Australia’s 59,736 kilometres of borders requires the dissemination of reams of live data to make informed decisions to ensure resources are dispatched efficiently and effectively to prevent potential issues penetrating our Nations borders.

ACPBS needed to aggregate over 50 live streams of data to allow transparent dissemination of information between multiple agencies which enables efficient and informed decisions to be made.

The need arose for a secure Video Collaboration and Communications solution that would streamline communications, expedite resource dispatchment and enable informed decisions to be made quickly.

CitadelTech was able to identify that it could build a solution that would exceed ACBPS requirements and provide additional functional requirements that ACBPS required.

CitadelTech’s Answer

In 2013, CitadelTech worked with ACBPS key stakeholders to identify functional requirements and objectives.

The definition phase of the solution development process was critical to ensuring a viable solution that would meet the needs of ACBPS today and in the future.

Throughout discussions, CitadelTech was able to identify that it could build a solution that would exceed ACBPS requirements and provide additional functional requirements that ACBPS required.

Once the design was agreed CitadelTech engaged it’s Project Management Office and expert programmers to build and install the solution.

The project had to be completed successfully within constrained timeframes due to the Ministerial open date.

The project was delivered on time and within budget and exceeded ACBPS expectations.

Due to the sensitive nature of the project and security restrictions, CitadelTech used its large pool of Video Collaboration & Communication security cleared personnel from consulting and design through to project management, installation and programming.

Outcomes

ACBPS can now stream in any configuration up to 50 live feeds at any one time.

The ACBPS can efficiently disseminate and share the live data within their Department or with cooperating Agencies to enable efficient informed decisions to be made.

Resources are able to be dispatched strategically and more efficiently to address any potential issues.

CitadelTech currently supports and maintains the solutions it has designed and installed for ACBPS and is their preferred Video Collaboration and Communications partner.
